Freidman himself did say there is no such thing as a free lunch. So you have some opportunity cost: the next best alternative. But this is something I've never fully understood. If the next best alternative is inferior in every way to the choice you make, is there really a cost?
Maybe there are always costs to our choices, but there is always more opportunity as well. So we're continually accruing (as long as we have more time) and spending. Since our accrual if free, maybe all of our spending is free as well. There's no such thing as a non-free lunch!
