I'm convinced by Brian Caplan that the money isn't for the education, but for the degree. So, unless the athletes like class, they're getting a great deal.

Apropos of your "as little as possible for their money," one of the things that disturbed my daughter at Oberlin was that when a class was cancelled, the other students were happy.
